Ideal Chicken Shawarma (the key is in the mix)

Shawarma-Style Chicken Recipe


Chicken Shawarma is one of my favorite Mediterranean dishes because of the versatility it provides. 

Most traditional Chicken Shawarma is marinated rotisserie style chicken and served shaved, or mairinated on a stick served street style.

But for making Chicken Shawarma at home we can simplify things to make it more Ideal!

The key to the Chicken Shawarma  flavor is in the seasoning mix, you nail this and you’re Golden.


  • 3/4 tbsp ground cumin
  • 3/4 tbsp turmeric powder
  • pinch of ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 tbsp garlic cloves
  • 3/4 tbsp paprika
  • red pepper flakes ground or whole
  • Salt
  • 8 boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • diced bell pepper
  • 1 large lemon, juice of
  • 1/3 cup Private Reserve extra virgin olive oil
  • Non Stick coconut spray

The cooking Process


Slice or dice up the raw chicken breast , which ever your prefer.

Marinated option: For the best flavor mix all the ingredients listed above into a large or two medium zip lock bags over night.

if you do not have time to marinade over night do not worry , this dish is still Delicious on the fly!

I use both methods , in the video above I prepared and severed right away.

You can just mix all ingredients above and start cooking right away.

Heat up medium sauce pan , if you have two  you can do both. ( do not use on large one , an over crowded pan will slow cook it more like soup)

When pan or pans are hot spray with non stick coconut spray and drop chicken in pans.

Stir or toss chicken occasionally until fully cooked.

To Serve 

This time I served my Shawarma Chicken on some Persian flat bread with plain Greek yogurt and freshly sliced cucumbers,with rice on the side.

The beauty of the chicken is the versatility.

You can serve it with multiple options offering a variety of amazing flavors. This makes in a must have staple for your eating routine.

Here are some options.

  • Pita bread
  • different wraps
  • taziki sauce
  • hummus
  • bed of mixed greens
  • Olives
  • Roasted potatoes
